Another long week ends with no weekend in sight

This has been a long week. Actually it's been long because of all the work last week. It seemed like the all the exams and assignments that I had to do last week would let this week be a little easier. That was not the case. I've actually started to fall behind on my reading. What's worse is that in the two classes that I thought would be kind of a cake walk, English and Accounting, I'm doing B+ work. I know it sounds like I'm just bitching about nothing. When you consider that most people would be happy with grades like that, why am I being such a stickler.

Well, when you consider that here in Bermuda College a grade of 80% is considered an A-, then a B+ is in the upper seventy percentile. From what I remember, 70-79% was C work, maybe a B-. But then there's also the feeling that I could have tried harder because then it would have shown. I was expecting A's in all my classes from the start. Over the summer I expected two A's and I got two A-'s instead. Disappointing. I don't want to repeat that.

On another note, my Web Design classes are going well. I'm understanding just about everything being covered and the work I'm handing in is likable. Well, by me at least. Here's the lab that I handed in earlier this week.

Sleep Awake mock-up for ECM1120

We had to design a page in Adobe Fireworks using all or most of the techniques that we've learned. I originally chose a crowdsourcing themed page, but decided that a lucid dreaming one would allow me to be more creative with the design. What do you think? I know it's amateurish, but what did you expect? I'm an amateur. (1)

Just sat an Accounting exam

I just sat my first Accounting exam for the semester and it was pretty straightforward. I think I did pretty well on it because if there were any mistakes, I was totally unaware of them. The material that was covered I was confident with too. That's a major hurdle I've overcome for this week.

I got some unfortunate news yesterday. Bermuda College called me to say I had to return my laptop. It was issued to me for my summer classes and I've held on to it since then. I don't know if I was supposed to hand it in after that semester. I wasn't told I had to. Well, I don't plan on returning it before tomorrow, and I might just try to keep it for the weekend. I'll see what happens when I go to the help desk.

The last hurdle for this week was the final draft of my English essay, but that's been extended until Monday. I still have to show up with a draft for peer evaluation, but it's not as pressing as before. I got an excellent evaluation from Smarthinking so there isn't much I have to do to it. I'm still going to touch it up some and be prepared for class tomorrow. Regardless of the evaluation of my "peers" I will probably hand in the same essay. (1)

The first of the long days

It's funny that I would call the days that I don't have to work long. But when I have three classes that are each a hour and a half long (as compared to one or two classes that are only a hour long) I can't see the day as short. My day is done, but I'm still at school. I just completed the second draft of my second English essay. The first has yet to be returned. And I still have some homework for my web design class to submit tomorrow morning. And I have to study for an exam taking place on Thursday. This will be a week to remember. But if I can get through it with no absences or late assignments I know that I'll be doing fine this semester. I just have to make sure I get good grades. (5)

It's starting to pick up

I haven't posted from home in a while now. It just shows how busy things are starting to get because it was in my mind all day yesterday to post. Unfortunately, with all the running around that I was doing I forgot every time I had the chance.

It's actually Saturday and I have to work tonight. I'm off tomorrow and then work next week Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Looks like I'll be busting my tail this weekend to get ready for next week. I have incentive though. Next weekend is all mine. I'll be off Saturday and Sunday. I just have to make sure that this weekend I get a lot of work done. Reading, studying and assignments can pile up quick if I slack off for just a bit. And the way my job is going, there is no sympathy from that end. I'll probably have to find something else to hold me down until the season picks up again. Otherwise it's going to be a long, cold and hungry winter. (5)

Finally some sleep

Since I've been without a mattress for the past week, I've been having the worst sleep nights that I can recall. I've been sleeping on a deflated air mattress with a fear of all of the creepy-crawlies that inhabit any Bermuda home. The most sleep I've gotten before last night was about four hours. I really needed some sleep.

Last night it all caught up to me and I crashed for about ten hours. I feel good today. Which I need to because I have a lot of work due tomorrow that I will not be able to do tonight. I need to give my attention to another. It's this or I get the treatment.

So here I am in the computer lab getting ready to do the assignment that's due tomorrow morning. I would've preferred to spend casual time working it, but instead I have to rush through it. No matter, because I like doing the work and I could stand to bring my speed up on it. Maybe one day soon I'll get some time that's mine again and I can use for something other than sleep. (3)

Crappy weekend spent working

This was one of the worst weekends that I've had in a while. I was at work when I should have been relaxing. And on top of that work sucked. Friday night was really slow, but my co-workers were not very good company. Then Saturday was busier with a few of the bad eggs from the night before. When Sunday came around I had homework to do, so I had no time to hang out and go to the beach, like I had planned.

I handed in all the homework I did today. The Web Dev Fundamentals class' material was easy enough. But I learned somethings today when we went over it. I think it may be time to start working on that logo that's floating around my head. English, on the other hand, was a waste of time. The majority of the class time was spent chastising the younger students for not having their assignment. I'll admit that I was a bad student at that age, but I usually was the only one in the class. It must've been about 70% of the class who had some excuse or other to why they were unprepared. And there was another 20% who didn't have their journal entries. I did all the work and will get all the credit I deserve(which I really hope is an A paper).

Now I'm in the library studying (and breaking to blog a bit) with an intense thirst. I can't seem to get enough water to drink. I'll probably have to pick up a gallon on the way home.(5)

Cloudy day that set the tone for the rest of it

The forecast today was for thundershowers and all that good stuff that makes you want to stay in bed. Unfortunately I don't have a bed right now because a few nights ago my air-mattress sprung a leak. For the past four nights I've been spending, what are now grueling hours, slumbering as close to the floor as possible--which means on the floor. So my back and body haven't been in the best shape.

Today was my long day schedule with four hours of morning classes, a half hour break, then another hour and a half class to close. I've been tired all day and until about two hours ago I was also famished. Now I'm just sitting off in an empty classroom with some friends who are doing either work or not. I don't have any assignments due tomorrow and no work tonight, so I get the opportunity to get some rest this evening. I plan on getting some sleep tonight because tomorrow is another long day because of work. At least I'll be getting all that pay that I'm missing out from getting tonight. But for now, until I go home, I'm playing Space Empires IV. (4)

Back after a long weekend

It's nice to be back after the long weekend. I feel like I didn't get as much done as I wanted to on the days free, but I did enjoy the time off. I had to work on both Friday and Saturday night, so I went into Sunday ready to relax. I find that I need to sleep in as long as possible when I get the chance otherwise I get grumpy.

Sunday I went to the beach. Actually it was two beaches. At Warwick Long Bay I was able to swim and have fun in the rough surf. Then at Horseshoe Bay I met up with friends who were board skimming. After the sun went down we lit a fire and ate roasted cheese and veggie dogs. Setting aside a few misfortunes (i.e. lost keys) it was a great time with great company. We packed up after midnight and called it a day.

Monday I did some studying and lounging. I was sore from the day before, so I tried not to do too much activity. I was able to get all the reading and homework done that I had to. But when night came and it was time to go to bed, I found that my air mattress had somehow sprung a little leak. Therefore, I had the most uncomfortable sleep that I can remember, and my back hurts like the devil. There's a dilemma that I will have to work out sooner or later. Either do that or start sleeping on the floor.

Today's been smooth. I understand the Accounting that I'm learning and I'm also up to date in my E-commerce class. Now it's break time, with one more class to go. Then it's home to do English homework and laundry.
